RIP-boot 😱 #28
Buffy fans are in mourning, plus every win for horror at the Oscars.
Welcome home, horror lover! 👋 After my love letter to Colin Stetson in last week’s edition I discovered he’s actually playing a concert near me in a few weeks, so you bet I’ve gone and scored tickets. If he doesn’t play the entire Hereditary soundtrack I will riot.
As if that wasn’t enough excitement, we sailed over the 400 subscribers mark this week and I can’t thank you all enough for your continued readership. Indulging in my passion over here and getting to share it with you is just the greatest privilege.
For anyone new here, hey 👋! I’m Samantha, a horror fanatic based in the north of England. I write this newsletter every week alongside my day job as a journalist for the UK press. If you enjoy horror in any way, shape or form, this is all for you.

🦇 Oscar-winning director Chloe Zhao’s Buffy the Vampire reboot has been scrapped by Hulu. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale was set to follow a brand new slayer called Nova (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and also bring back Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy. Details have now emerged about what led to the cancellation.
🤮 Filming for Mike Flanagan’s The Exorcist started this week after a raft of cast announcements. The director confirmed the news with a photo of a clapperboard in front of a stained glass window.
👂 A Quiet Place: Part 3’s cast has been unveiled by director John Krasinski. Jack O’Connell, Jason Clarke and Katy O’Brian are new additions, alongside returning stars Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe.
📜 Bodies Bodies Bodies writer Sarah DeLappe is set to pen an upcoming remake of nineties thriller, Single White Female. Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are on board to star.
🛌 The first reviews for Hokum are trickling in… and it’s looking promising. The upcoming folk tale comes from director Damian McCarthy (Oddity, Caveat) and stars Adam Scott as a novelist who heads to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes.

Raw premiered at the Cannes Film Festival a decade ago, but it is still distressing viewers to this day.
Directed by Julia Ducournau (she went on to make Titane), the body horror follows lifelong vegetarian student Justine who is forced to eat meat in a veterinary school initiation ritual.
Her life beings to unravel as her taste for meat spirals, and she goes on a grisly journey of self-discovery. It is packed full of powerful symbolism and enough blood and guts to tide you over until next week.
