Welcome back, horror lover! 👋 I have returned from my UK wedding tour where I unashamedly waffled at length to all who would listen about horror. If any of my fellow party-goers did subscribe… hi!
As is always the way I took one week off and everything happened. Some pretty big updates to share in this week’s edition so let’s dive right in.
Horror latest 🩸
🌓 The gorgeous first poster for Robert Eggers’ Werwulf has been unveiled. Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s full transformation into the eponymous Werwulf remains a closely-guarded secret, but we can assume from this new titbit it’ll be utterly horrifying.
🏃♂️ Zach Cregger has given a fresh update on his Weapons prequel, Gladys. The script is underway, with the director revealing there are “a lot of twists and turns and mysteries and crazy things.” It is currently expected to release in September 2028.
😎 Mike Flanagan has broken his silence on why he couldn’t direct upcoming body horror, Clayface. The filmmaker pitched the film to DC Studios bosses but had to step away, leaving Eden Lake director James Watkins to take up the role instead.
👩👧 Other Mommy’s official rating has arrived and unsurprisingly it’s an R for “bloody violence and language.” Get in! No mention of the tangled Jessica Chastain that shocked us all in the trailer, mind you.
⭐ Handmaid’s Tale and You star Madeline Brewer has joined the cast of Smile director Parker Finn’s Possession remake. Previously announced stars include Margaret Qualley (The Substance) and Callum Turner (Green Room).

We have to talk about that Other Mommy trailer! Ever since watching it I’ve been scouring Vinted and eBay to try and find a reasonably-priced copy of the book it’s based on, Incidents Around the House.
There’s something so chilling about the idea of an entity trying to get into a child’s heart with no further explanation about why that is exactly, and now I need to know absolutely everything about the story.
They’ve played a blinder with the cast for this one too. Jessica Chastain as real mum and ‘Other Mommy’, plus Dichen Lachman from Severance and Jay Duplass from Industry? Say less.
Whether I will get the book ordered and devoured before the big-screen version hits cinemas remains to be seen (my to be read stack is high) but if I do, you bet I’ll pop my review right here.

To a friend, I recommend… 🎀🩸
Jessica Chastain can’t make a bad horror film, and in honour of her turn in Other Mommy, this week’s recommendation is one of her best horror roles.
The film I’m urging you to watch is 2013’s Mama, which follows two young girls who are found living abandoned and in total squalor in the middle of the woods.
How have they survived? A team of experts are brought in to find out, and their closest family members step in to raise them in a normal environment which throws up a terrifying explanation.
Alongside Oscar-winner Chastain and Game of Thrones alum Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, the cast also includes horror icon Javier Botet. If that’s still not enough names for you, it was directed by Andy Muschietti with Guillermo Del Toro also on board as an executive producer.

A full-length trailer for Zach Cregger’s upcoming entry into the Resident Evil universe has arrived and fans are loving it.
His story is an original one set in the famed horror game world, and he recently let slip to Empire Magazine that it was “definitely the most violent thing I’ve done.”
After a glance at the 2:08 time stamp in the trailer, I certainly concur. Looks like we’re in for a treat folks!
